Snorkelling in Seychelles

Snorkelling is enjoyed by many of our clients so why not don mask, snorkel tube and flippers and experience the underwater world of the Seychelles?
If you have never tried snorkelling before, then here you have the opportunity in the Seychelles to enjoy a very pleasant and interesting experience. A few tips for the beginner:

  • Start off with good equipment. A leaking mask is not good for your confidence
  • Always have someone near you in the water and stay within your depth. Many beginners learn to snorkel in 30cm of water!!
  • Be aware all the time of where you are in relation to the your beach or boat
  • Take an underwater camera with you. The latest sport pro gadgets are ideal
  • Discuss with your concierge in Seychelles where the best places are for a beginner
  • Then enjoy yourselves!

What can Seychelles offer you with regards to scuba diving?

With a generous weather system Seychelles has numerous islands all within close proximity to each other providing excellent diving for novices through to advanced divers. Most islands have PADI, BSAC qualified dive centres and will pick you up from your accommodation on your dive days.

Best diving conditions are between October & May although other times are acceptable where specific sites are chosen that have protection from prevailing winds.

The islands of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue have excellent dive sites with qualified dive centres. Private islands such as Alphonse, Denis, North and Silhouette also have dive centres.

  • Obtain your basic open water dive qualifications
  • Enhance your basic dive qualification to an advanced level
  • Fabulous wreck, tunnel and wall dives.

What are you likely to see?

Due to the numerous islands, reefs and atolls, you are likely to see a vast array of fish species from the tiniest of clownfish, to magnificent Whale Sharks. Seychelles is an absolute treasure chest of colourful marine life, coral formations and underwater features.

Where are the Dive sites?

Mahé Island
Mahé boasts up to 25 sites with 12 suitable for novices. Baie Ternay, on the North West tip of Mahé is also a National Marine Park and a good snorkelling area. Ennerdale Wreck lying in 20/30 metres is a favourite for both Intermediate and Advanced divers,

Praslin & La Digue Island
Only 15 minutes flying time from Mahé Island, with a minimum of 10 dive sites to choose from to suit all levels of ability.

Denis Island - go to Denis Island
30 minute light aircraft flight from Mahé with a dive centre offering diving excursions to nearby sites.
Accommodation is provided in beach side chalets that are delightfully charming and well appointed.

Alphonse Island - go to Alphonse Island
Has a fully equipped dive centre and a professional team of international diving instructors to make your experience on Alphonse a safe, unforgettable experience. 13 sites with sheer drop offs. Abundant sea life is part of this dive paradise. Pristine sites are a showcase of diverse species of turtle, stingrays, Moray Eels, Barracuda, Wahoo, Shark, Tune, Grouper Snapper and Trevally. Alphonse also offers a full range of NDL diver's courses, Scuba Kids and Discovery dives.

North Islandgo to North Island
Housed in a historic coral building near the Piazza, North Island’s Dive Centre offers full PADI tuition and certification. Expert divemasters with intimate knowledge of the local reefs and the very best dive spots, plus state of the art SCUBA equipment, make for a memorable dive experience. The dive centre features indoor and outdoor changing areas and showers, displays about the natural history of the waters off the island, and a typically warm North Island welcome from dive master and his team.
